Why do men have nipples?

A friend of mine asked me this and got me thinking? I don't know. Do they serve a purpose? I personally think men would look funny without them, but maybe that's just because I'm accustomed to them being there. What do you think?

We all start in the womb as females, and it's not until later on (in the first trimester) do we develope into genders. It's this flaw of our conception that gives us nipples.

OK, apparently I was very successful in forgetting most of what I learned in highschool. We start as females in the womb, gender is decided after nipples develop.

When we are formed as fetuses both male and female bodies are the same, with the exception of "down there" sexual organs. So then when the childs sexual organs develop females will also form mammary glands to feed their children, but males will not, so their nipples remain in the original state.

So *technically* since we all have nipples to begin with anyway, and then only females develop mammary glands while males stay the same. all girls start out as guys. then of course we develop into the amazingly perfect things that we are.. lol

As a developing embryo, male and female humans start out identically. However the hormones that the embryo is exposed to in the womb differ depending on the sex (which is determined by the DNA). Thus a female develops differently than a male.
