Whats the difference between Diphenhydramine and Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride(HCI)?
Answers:
They are the same. Both are anti-histamines that are generally used for allergy symptoms and sometimes found in over the counter sleep aids. The generic brands are also the very same as the "national" or "name" brands as far as effectiveness is concerned. Be sure to stick with the recommended dosage and be aware that it will usually make you sleepy or kind of sluggish feeling, but if suffering from allergies, hay fever it really helps to stop your eyes and nose from running. Some doctors recommend this for itching/rashes. If you are using for sleep, it takes about 20 minutes to make you sleepy and get a good night's rest with no "hang-over" effect. Do not drink alcohol with this medication or use any other products containing diphenhydramine - even skin creams if taking orally.
Good Luck and Be Well.
They are the same thing. Its just more specific terminology to say its the hydrochloride (or salt) form.
