Yes, marijuana was made illegal for racist reasons originally, and is one of the least harmful illegal drugs.Yes. It's proven to be less harmful than cigarettes and alcohol.
And keeping pot illegal wastes millions of taxpayer's dollars. If the cops didn't have to worry about marijuana, they can free up some funds to use towards busting the hard drug dealers. Just ask the police and they will tell you this themselves.
And making it legal also deters growers from starting illegal and unsafe grow-ops cause they can use safe ways of growing their weed.
As for those that say it's a gateway drug, I know many pot-heads who have never turned into crack-heads or meth-heads. And you can also say that simple prescription drugs are gateway drugs too.

I dont think it should be legalized and i smoke myself. it is a highly addictive drug and that it what alot of pot heads will deny. but ask one to give up for a week and thats when your'll find that it's not that easy :) So for the kids. I say NO to legalization!no!
