My friend cuts herself, Can someone you tell me more about this borderline personality disorder?

Question:
I have bipolar disorder. A friend of mine has borderline personality disorder and she cuts herself. Can someone you tell me more about this borderline disorder? Do you know anyone who does this?

Answers:
I know someone who does it & I do it but I've found that when you wear a rubberband on your wrists and snap it whenever you feel like cutting it REALLY helps. I do it alot & it reduces the cutting but does not stop it. The only reason people do it is because they have alot going on in their life and they feel like it's the only pain they can control. Other Answers:
It hurts to hear, but in most cases self-inflicted wounds are a desire for attention. If you don't believe me, don't talk to her about her cutting for a month or so, you will see much less of them.

I had a friend with the same problem. After everyone stopped making a big deal about it, she stopped doing it. Coincidence? I think not.

Self mutilation is not borderline in my opinion.
It's an outward expression of whats going on inside.
Anxiety fuels a lot of expressions, this is not anything to be allowed to progress without a stable friend.

I used to cut myself. The reason why I and most people cut is because I liked to be in control of something. It seemed like everything was spinning out of control in my life and the past hurt so much emotionally and physically, it felt good to be in control of my emotions when I cut into my arm because I couldn't be in control of all of my other emotions. I used to cut when I was in my teens. I cut the last time when I was 18. I never seeked professional help, thankfully I have very wonderful friends and a wonderful husband who helps me every day. Talk to her, encourage her to talk to other people about what is really the root source of her depression. Getting all of the bad things off my chest was the best healing for me. Good luck. I hope she gets all her ducks in a row. ;)

My child was not a cutter but did beat hisself about the face. That very well could have lead into cutting. Through therapy for this we learned it is not a borderline personality disorder it is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Where ever she recieved her diganois get her out of there and help her find someone better. Cutting or self mutilation wheather tempory harms or leaves long life lasting scars is all the same. Your friend is not trying to recieve attention she/he is trying to not feel the pain on the inside. Or is just simply trying to call out for help.
