I am having problems with an ankle sprain after 6 weeks.I need ADVICE!?
I have a question about my ankle. I severely sprained it over 6 weeks ago and heard a loud snap. A trip to urgent care confirmed that is wasnt broke after X-rays but I was put on crutches and an aircast and sent home. Well it has been over 6 weeks and I am still in much pain when I walk. My ankle feels like it will give way when I am standing.
Well I went to an orthopedist and have to go have an MRI done to see what is going on.
But my question is I have a weird lump on the outside of my left ankle right beside the joint. When I feel it compared to my other ankle it is larger and the lump is firm. Could I have torn something?? Its just odd..but I do hurt when I walk and stand for at least 10 minutes. I had my MRI done and receive results June 6th. Everyone keeps telling me it sounds like I tore a ligament. I stay swollen up and it bad pain. Everyone says I may need surgery if it is torn ligament.
Any ideas or similar experiences to share? Any info would be appreciated!
Anyone ever hear the sound of a TV on or radio when it is off?

I had a similar experience about 2 years ago. I fell and I thought I had a really bad sprain. It was really swollen and I had bruises all the way up to my knee. I had never broken anything before and I was pretty sure it wasn't broken. I didn't hear anything snap and it hurt when I fell, but not too bad. My mom, a nurse, came and looked at it and told me to keep it elevated.
About a month later, I had an appointment with a Podiatrist for something totally unrelated. When he saw how swollen and bruised I was after 4 weeks, he took an x-ray. I had broken my leg and my ankle was broken in 3 places. I was shocked - I always thought breaking a bone would be excruchiating pain! I had to have surgery and they put a plate and some screws in there. Now I'm back to normal, with a lovely scar to show for it. No offense to my mom, but I'm thinking it's a good thing she is retired.
If after 6 weeks you are still swollen, there is definitely something wrong. They've ruled out broken bones, but you'll have to wait for the MRI to find out what is really wrong. Sure, you might need surgery, but it could be worse. For example, did I mention the fact that I have MS, which affects my left leg and my breaks were in my right leg? What this meant is that, because my left leg is not able to hold me up, crutches did no good. I was basically living on my couch for 2 months.
Good luck with everything - I'm sure you'll be fine =)

ICE, ICE, ICE! PLUS elevating it above your heart!
The swelling has to go down in order for this to heal. If you are walking on it, then it can't heal properly!
Did you follow the Doctors advice when you first injured you ankle? ICE, ELEVATION ETC?
If you have an ace bandage on, is it on correctly? Is it too tight? OR too loose?

inspite of the fact that you did not have any fracture, you may have severely damaged or torn ligaments in your ankle (thus the loud snap you heard). In the 6-week period you were in an aircast, you should have been prescribed exercise to allow these ligaments to heal in the proper way and in the proper direction. In the absence of a comprehensive exercise program during these period, the ligaments may have scarred and healed in an improper way thus causing lumps. You may benefit right now with joint mobilization techniques to break up the scar tissue (which of course will hurt and cause additional swelling) but will definitely move you away from surgery (which is invasive as everyone knows). Look for a good physical therapist, preferably one with experience in sports who works with a good orthopedic surgeon.good luck.
How can i lose 15 kilos without the help of excersice ?
you need to go to therapy and strengthen the ligaments and muscles again. If you don't it will keep happening. Also elevate as much as possible.More Questions and Answers
