Have you heard anything bad about the sugar substitute stevia?
I had been useing splenda but have been hearing a lot of bad things about it lately. Is stevia safe?
Do you know of a natural way to lower blood pressure?
Answer:
I never have heard anything bad about it. It comes from a plant so I suppose it would depend on how it was processed. Chocolate and cocaine come from the same basic plant, too. And the uses of those depend on the processing Here's one article on it.

And, if I read this right, here is an article against it.

I guess you're going to have to try it for yourself. There will always be somebody against "the new thing" no matter what it is. Somebody could come up with a universal cure for cancer and there would be articles against it. Thats just human nature.
Here's one more for you.
Stevia: Nature's Perfect Sweetener
Welcome to SteviaInfo.com, a non-profit project dedicated to providing accurate and credible information about stevia, the all-natural, zero-calorie sweetener.
Produced from a member of the daisy family, stevia is the world's only all-natural sweetener with zero calories, zero carbohydrates and a zero glycemic index. These attributes make stevia a good alternative to sugar or chemical sweeteners. Especially popular as a sweetener for coffees and teas, Stevia can also be used in cooking and baking, helping you reduce your calorie intake and stay healthy.
Native Americans in Paraguay have safely used stevia for hundreds of years, valuing the herbal sweetener not only for its delicious taste but also for its medicinal healing properties. Stevia has also been used extensively as a sweetener in Japan, where it has been the calorie-free sweetener of choice for more than three decades. Meanwhile the product continues to gain popularity amongst health conscious people in America, where it can be found in dietary supplement items, protein drinks, energy bars and a wide range of teas.

What is a natural pain reliever in Germany?
Stevia is a herb. I found a few plants for sale and grew it for a bit. The leaves have an extremely sweet taste. What is sold at the store is probably a water extracted powder, but it may have something added as filler to make it measure like sugar. I have seen the dried leaves, a fluid extract and stevia packaged as a white, sugar like powder. It should be safe for everyone except the few people who may be allergic. I have never heard of anyone allergic to stevia, but there is always someone who has a problem. It's probably one of the best ways to get the sweet taste without the calories.

The story of stevia is a chapter on the hold the sugar growers/processors & high fructose corn syrup industries have on our food production!
I think I'll make a point of growing more next year, even if I have to move some roses to do it!
